I’m sure some of you have read or at least heard about the online movement called the Day Zero Project that was created a few years ago and has seen a recent spike in participation. Basically it is a unique meme that challenges and inspires you to create a list of 101 attainable goals you’d like to accomplish in 1001 days (about 2.75 years).

Your list has to be specific with a result that is easily measured or defined. The site even gives you some goal setting tips:

  1. Be decisive. Know exactly what you want, why you want it and how you plan to achieve it.
  2. Stay focused. Any goal requires sustained focus from beginning to end. Constantly evaluate your progress.
  3. Welcome failure. Frequently, very little is learned from a venture that did not experience failure in some form. Failure presents the opportunity to learn and makes the success more worthy.
  4. Write down your goals. It clarifies your thinking and reinforces your commitment.
  5. Keep your goals in sight. Review them frequently and ensure they are always at the forefront of your thinking.

The idea has inspired people around the world to share their goal list on their personal sites as a way to hold them accountable and also share their accomplishments. See the complete Day Zero Master List here.

While you may not want to create and share your personal goal list with the world, you can use the tips above to help you, your employees and your company set an attainable list of goals. This would be a great team building exercise and also give you some insight into the people you work with. Take a minute today to reflect on what you’d like to accomplish 2.75 years from now, and, if you’re really feeling inspired, share some of your list with us in the comments section.

P.S. Be sure to check out the Day Zero Web site for links to other motivational and inspirational sites.
